Hello! I am so excited you stumbled across my website (whether by accident or on purpose). My name is Kallie Jo Kastenson, and I am the owner of Briar Rose Marketing & Design. I’d love to get to know you as we work together to further your marketing goals, but first, I want to tell you a little bit more about myself and how I got to where I am today.
Let me start out by saying I love agriculture. I especially love beef cattle. And I’ll admit that after my brother looked at my website, he said “Wow, I’m shocked! There were no pictures of cows anywhere...” Little did he know… I was saving all the best photos for my blog posts (so watch out for those)!
My Early Years in Agriculture
Growing up on a grain and beef cattle farm in southeastern Wisconsin, I got my start in agriculture at a very young age. My family (consisting of my parents and three siblings) moved to the current home of Kastenson Farms when I was just 2 years old. Summers were filled with raking hay, picking rocks, caring for animals and (my particular favorite) showing hogs and steers at the local County Fair.
My family is not only involved with production agriculture, but they also own two agribusinesses. Kastenson Farms sells a consumer product to local garden centers, and when I was just 14 years old, my parents bought Harry Hansen Meat Service – a custom meat processing facility.
While I didn’t know it at the time, my upbringing gave me a great knowledge of the agriculture industry. I was fortunate to be involved with many sectors of the industry – experiencing hands-on learning about crops, animals and agribusiness practices all before I graduated from high school.
My Education in Agriculture
When I was younger, I was told to get a job as far away from the farm as possible because farming and agriculture is a hard lifestyle, filled with many uncertainties and hardships.
However, as I entered college, there was no industry I would have rather been learning about. My love for agriculture led me to receive my Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Education from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville. And my want for showcasing my love for agriculture led me to receive a Master’s Degree in Agriculture Communications from Texas Tech University.
My Dreams in Agriculture
I interned in the Agriculture Department at Wisconsin State Fair for two summers before accepting a full-time position with the Fair as the first-ever Agriculture Education Coordinator. In my role, I was responsible for creating graphic content for the Agriculture Department, developing and executing the agricultural education displays on-grounds and generating content for knowledge-based agriculture competitions for Junior exhibitors.
I recently left my job to pursue a dream of mine – opening my own business focused on small business marketing. I am excited to work with small businesses to develop their marketing content. I am also excited to start my blog focused on agribusiness marketing with an emphasis on marketing agriculture to the consumer.
While I am not exactly sure what the future has in store, my passion for agriculture and ambition to help others continues to steer my new journey.
